Nirmala Memorial Foundation College, Kandivali scored a convincing 63 runs victory against Siddharth College of Arts & Science in a first round match of the 9th Saqib Rizvi Memorial Inter-Collegiate Rotating Trophy Cricket Tournament, organised by the Junior College’s Sports Association of Mumbai and sponsored by the Rizvi Education Society and scheduled to commence at the New Hind ground on Wednesday.
Electing to bat first, Nirmala College amassed a total of 162 for 5 wickets in 14 overs. Opener Sai Naidu made a rapid 79 runs and Pranav Sanil contributed with an unbeaten 60 runs. Mangesh Rajbhar (2/40) and Hardik Kurangale (2/17) wee the pick of the Siddharth College bowlers.
In reply the Siddharth College innings failed to get going as their batsmen were dismissed cheaply by some tight and disciplined display from Nirmala College bowlers. Sachin Kanojia waged a lone battle and scored 62 runs. Nilesh Yadav (3/8), Pratham More (3/9), Vinay Kunwar (2/10) and Naufil Rajani (2/18) were responsible for picking up the wickets.
Earlier, Shivam Dubey, a former student of Rizvi College, in inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Adv. Rubina Akhtar Hasan Rizvi, Director, Rizvi Education Society, Dr. Siddharth R. Kamble, President, JCSA & Principal of Dr. Ambedkar College, Dr. Tushar Desai,, Vice-President, JCSA & Principal, R.D. Ruparel College, Aarman Malik, former MCA committee member and other dignitaries.
Addressing the young college cricketers Shivam advised to work and play hard. “You are all young upcoming cricketers. You have to keep working hard and it’s very important that you be loyal to your cricket. You should not try to take shortcuts, as through shortcuts you can achieve anything or become successful,” the Mumbai Ranji Trophy and IPL cricketer Shivam told the gathering of youngsters.
Brief scores: Nirmala Memorial Foundation College 162 for 5 in 14 overs (Sai Naidu 79, Pranav Sanil 60 not out; Mangesh Rajbhar 2/40, Hardik Kurangale 2/17) beat Siddharth College of Commerce 98 all out in 12 overs (Sachin Kanojia 62; Nilesh Yadav 3/8, Pratham More 3/9, Vinay Kunwar 2/10, Naufil Rajani 2/18).
