St. Joseph’s ‘A’ (Umerkhadi) riding on the twin strikes from hard-working goal-scorer Nigel Marshall recorded a 3-1 victory against St. Francis Xavier’s ‘B’ (Vile Parle) in a Men’s Open third round match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organized 5-a-side Rink football tournament, played under floodlights at the gymkhana’s tennis courts.
Besides Marshall’s goals, St. Joseph scored the third goal through Akshay Babaria while Our Lady of Egypt pulled one back through Lionel Fernandes.
In the first match of the day, Our Lady of Health ‘B’ (Sahar) proved too good and blanked Sacred Heart ‘C’ (Andheri) 4-0. Combining well as a team the Sahar team was well-served by Rohit Pal, Rahul C., Ronaldo Pereira and Pasha Shaikh, all scoring one goal each to complete the winning tally.
Later, St. Joseph’s ‘D’ (Juhu) also enjoyed smooth sailing and cruised past St. Francis Xavier’s ‘B’ (Vile Parle) registering a 4-0 victory. The hero of St. Joseph’s win was striker Sujal Dhabole who struck two goals while Kiran Chowgule and Aditya Gawa contributed with one each to seal their margin of victory.
