Well Known social reformer Late Savitribai Phule, was instrumental in the field of women’s education. Now a new Hindi serial based on the life of Savitribai titled as ‘ Savitri Ek Kranti’ will be aired on Doordarshan’s DD Kisan Chanel from September 14th from Monday to Friday 8.30 pm.
The soap which is based on the life Savitribai who worked for the betterment of women in spite of the insults and criticism from the society is produced by Lahu Sheth Jadhav and Harish Sapkale. It is directed by Shivadutt Sharma and Jaydev Chakravarty and the research for the serial is done by Hari Narke and Nitin Arekar. The soap which is written by Vikas Kapoor showcases significant incidences in the life of Savitribai and also the body of work she has done in the social and educational fields.
Actresses Dharisha Kalyani and Priyanka Panchal have essayed the role of Savitribai. While Dharisha has played the Savitribai when she was a child, Pratiksha has portrayed the role of adult Savitribai. The remaining starcast includes Kuldeep Dube, Preeti Gidwani, Vishal Bhardwaj, Deepti Bhagwat, Kavita Vadhwa, Amit Behel, Shish Khan, Reshma Gokhale and Sauham Choudhary and others.
Savitribai was the first lady teacher in the first Women’s school in India. In the era when the women were confined to the four walls of the home and were considered good for only household chores like cooking, sweeping and bearing children, Savitribai was working along with Jyotiba Phule to bring revolution in the society. She went through insults from the conservative Brahmin society and even faced horrific abuses by society when the people used to throw cow dung towards her. On her way to school Savitribai was often abused and humiliated by conservative people by throwing mud and cow-dung on her sari but she continued doing her good work in unfazed manner.
On every step of her life, Savitribai’s thinking and her outlook was just like an independent women. She just didn’t stop at thinking but behaved accordingly. The kind of path breaking work she did was a very tough task in the bygone era and that is reason the revolution in the field of education shaped by Savitribai was priceless. Producer Harish Sapkale informed that the purpose behind making the serial was to create awareness among young generation about the significance of the path breaking work done by Savitribai.
The true story of Savitribai Phule which is an inspiring story on every step of life will be showcased on Doordarshan as television soap titled as ‘Savitri Ek Kranti’. Thanks to soap, the audience will surely get acquainted with the persona of Savitribai, the kind life she led and the inspiring work she has done.
