Hot favourite Khar Gymkhana’s Neel Roy swept the pool with a haul of five gold medals on the concluding day of the GMAAA Age Group Aquatic championships, held at Tata Swimming pool, Chembur, here today. In fact, out of five golds, Neel, who aggregated 35 points, set new marks in four – 50m, 100m and 200m (all free style) and 100m backstroke, while the only event where he could not better the existing mark was the 200m individual medley.
The top honours in the corresponding girls section went to Goregaon Sports Club’s Radhika Gawde, who aggregated 33 points with five golds. But she could not better the existing marks in any of them. However, the spotlight was on Kareena Shankta, of Forest Club in the girls under-14 section. She topped with 31 points with 3 golds and 2 silver medals and in the process not only rewrote the existing meet records but went on to eclipse the national mark (02:51.94) in the 200m breast stroke event, clocking 02:47.75 secs..
The boys under-14 was topped by Srish Maulik, of Otters Club, as he aggregated 33 points with four golds, and one silver medals and he was credited with three meet records as well.
Individual champions in various age groups:
GIRLS: Group I: Radhika Gawde (Goregaon SC )- 33 pts ( 5 golds). Group II: Kareena Shanka (Forest Club) -31 pts (3 golds, 2 silver with 3 New meet records. Group III: Kiara Bangera (GAF) – 28 pts (4 golds with 1 NMR). Group IV : Aarushi Sharma (Goregaon SC) – 29 pts (3 golds, 1 silver, 1bronze).
BOYS: Group I: Neel Roy (Khar Gym) – 35 pts (5 golds with 4 NMRS). Group II:Srish Maulik (Otters Club) – 4 golds, 1 silver with 3 NMRs. GROUP III: Ronak Sawant (GAF) – 4 golds. Group IV: Parth Jain (Police Swimming Pool)- 31 pts. ( 3 golds+2 silver).
