Khar Gymkhana’s Neel Roy among boys and Palak Dhami from Glenmark Aquatic Foundation put up superb record breaking show as five records tumbled on the opening day of the GMAAA Age Group Aquatic championships, held at Tata Swimming pool, Chembur, here today.
Tall and well-built collegian Neel was simple superb. He outclassed his rivals and won the 200m freestyle boys-I event in 01:57.65,which betters the timing of 02:00.21 secs set by Otters Club’s Ishaan Jaffer in 2015. Equally impressive was Glenmark Aquatic Foundation’s Vedant Bapna, who took gold in the 50m backstroke event in the same category. In the process he eclipsed Jason Smith (Khar Gymkhana)’s record timing 0f 00:29.12, set in 2015. Otters’ Srish Malik took home the 100m backstroke record-breaking gold in 01:14.10 secs
Among girls, Glenmark Aquatic Foundation’s Palak Dhami stood out in the girls_II section as she bagged gold in the 200m backstroke with a new record timing of 02:32.04. thus improving up[on the 2015 timing of 02:34.18, set by Tejaswita Bhardwaj of Ozone pool in the corresponding girls II category.. Kareena Shankra , of Forest Club swam to glory with record-breaking gold in the 100n backstroke in the same section.
