Hosts NBA (Nagpada Basketball Association) boys were speedy and aggressive while scoring a 68-48 win Pune’s N.J.Academy in the Under-21 section of the NBA 16th Invitational State Level basketball tournament, at NNH’s floodlit courts last night. The host boys were all over the place right from the word go and kept their opponents from the ghats under check. The first two quarters were closely fought, but after the breather it was NBA boys who called the shots to win the tie by 20 points. But the day’s cliff hanger was the men’s tie between NBA and Mastan YMCA, resulting in the former squeezing in a 67-65 win.

However, in the women’s section, Deccan (Pune) did well to score over YMSSWA 45-37, after trailing 13-20 in the first half. It was only after the half time, they appeared to be a transformed side as they counter-attacked to emerge worthy winners. In the other tie, Bandra YMCA, thanks to Pooja Ajmera’s and Priyanka Vengur’s three-pointers shooting, turned the tables on Indian Gymkhana 39-30. However, Indian Gymkhana girls dominated in the first half and were leading 21-16. But their lack of bench strength (in fact, they had no bench strength at all), as their five players had to play right through, resulted in their rivals fully exploiting them in the second half to romp home..
