Unseeded youngsters Naishaa Kaur Bhatoye and Taarini Suri caused quite a sensation as they continued with their impressive winning run of form and knocked out the top two seeds in the girls’ under-17 event of the Greater Mumbai District Badminton Championship 2019, organized by the Greater Mumbai Badminton Association and hosted by the cricket Club of India and played at the club’s badminton courts on Wednesday.
In semi-final encounters, Naishaa toppled the top-seeded Shravani Panchal pulling off a comfortable 21-12, 21-8 win while on a side court Taarini sent second seed Saanvi Mardolkar crashing to a 21-11, 21-16 defeat to set a clash in the summit round.
Both Naishaa and Taarini will also fight it out for the top honours in the girls’ under-15 final. The top seed Taarini tamed Tarushi Yadav 21-10, 21-3, while second seed Naishaa prevailed ovet Sanjivani Suryavanshi winning 21-4, 21-4.
Meanwhile, Nigel D’Sa the men’s singles second seed bowed out losing to unseeded Shubham Pal in straight games at 17-21, 22-24 in the quarter-final.
Top seed Viplav Kuvale Easily advanced to the semi-finals defeating Nihar Kelkar 21-10, 21-11.
