MYJ-GM Sports Club after a hesitant start gradually found their rhythm and turned things around and defeating a sprightly Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) by a fighting 2-1 margin in an exciting Premier Division match of the Mumbai Football League 2023-2024 and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra.
The youthful Reliance outfit put up a solid fighting performance and against the run of play took the lead when captain and attacking midfielder Supratim Das struck the opening goal of the match in the 30th minute.
Trailing 0-1 at the break, the Vijith Shetty coached MYJ-GM Sports Club started to find their bearings and restored parity in the 70th minute with their captain Kamlesh Nadar scoring their first goal.
Three minutes later a Reliance defender handled the ball in the area and referee Anil Desai awarded MYJ-GM a penalty. Seasoned medio Keegan Pereira coolly beat RFYC goalkeeper Shubhadip Pandit to give MYJ-GM Sports Club the lead which they maintained till the final whistle to launch their campaign on a winning note.
Earlier, in a Super Division encounter, Rhema FC scored once in each half to put it across a determined Kenkre FC Under-19 by clinching a narrow 2-1 margin of victory.
Midfielder Hemang Jadhav scored both the goals. He struck the first goal in the 30th minute and then scored the winner in the 81st minute. In between those two goals Atharva Rewal scored one in the 69th minute.
