During the 70s and 80s, we had seen young men going abroad to places like Bahrain, Kuwait, Dubai for well paying jobs. But today, young girls in their early 20s are ready to take up jobs anywhere in the world, especially in travel and hospitality industry. This clearly indicates that these young women are more stronger than men not just mentally but also physically, to give better output through their work.

Magzmumbai recently met one such young girl in her early 20s in Muscat, Oman. Janhavi Ambre who belongs to Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra studied her hotel management from Kohinoor Institute of Hotel Management. She landed in Muscat six months ago, on the recommendation of her friend Sanjana, from the same district, who was already working in a five star hotel there.

Coming from a well to do family, with her father already into business, mother a housewife and younger brother now studying in the final year of college, Janhavi took this decision to work outside India, as she felt that there was better scope there in this hotel industry.

When we asked Janhavi, as to how her family allowed her to take up a job outside India, she said that they were all liberal and respected her decision. Hard working and efficient that she is, Janhavi has to work during the day as well as in night shifts, whenever required. And, she is ready for the same with a smile on her face. Handling the reception counter is itself a tough job helping the guests during check in and check out, especially when the guests arrive in big groups. And, Janhavi is extremely good at that. “Sometimes, we girls have to travel to and fro hotel – home during midnight hours. But, Muscat is a safe place for women. And our hotel authorities are also very cooperative,” says Janhavi.
Hotel and tourism industry has lot of scope all over the world. And, Janhavi wants to progress further in her challenging career at Royal Tulip Hotel with hard work and sincerity to her work. She inspires all young those working women from India, who are looking for opportunities in Hotel industry outside India. Magzmumbai salutes this young maharashtrian girl, for choosing this career, which is usually dominated by men. Wishing her all the best.
