Mumbai Police win by 9-wickets


71st Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2018

 

Hosts Mumbai Police Gymkhana cruised to a 9-wicket win against Islam Gymkhana in an opening Group-C league match on the second day of the 71st Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2018 at the Police Gymkhana ground on Sunday.

 

The Mumbai cops who had bowled out Islam Gymkhana for a measly 118 in 36.3 overs with medium pacer Santosh Shinde picking up 7 wickets for 40 runs, easily overhauled the target to record a thumping win.

 

Resuming at their overnight score of 71 for the loss of the only wicket of opener Chirag Khurana (26 runs) the policemen without any further damage reached the target scoring 121 in 21.2 overs to make a winning start.

 

In the other Group-C match, MCA Colts defeated Cricket Club of India by 58 runs. Electing to bat first MCA Colts amassed a healthy total of 356 for 8 wickets in 70 overs. Srujan Athawale batted well and scored 107 runs (155b, 206m, 12×4) while Chinmay Sutar (86) and Sairaj Sangle (62) were responsible in helping MCA Colts put up a challenging total. In reply, Cricket Club of India were bowled out for 298 in 68 overs. Ajinkya Patil fine century effort 122 runs (154b, 237m, 11×4) and another good knock from Prashant Naik (93) went in vain. Aquib Qureshi (4/54) and Tanush Kotian (3/67) were the main wicket-takers who fashioned the win for the MCA youngsters.
