Mumbai Police score massive 296 runs win over Hindu Gym


Hosts Mumbai Police registered a massive 296 runs victory against P.J. Hindu Gymkhana in their two-day Group-C (Round-3) league match of the Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. sponsored 69th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament – 2016, and played at the Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive, on Sunday.

Skipper Santosh Shinde came up with a fine all-round performance to complete Mumbai Police’s charge to victory. Shinde cracked a rapid 30 runs as Mumbai Police, who resumed at the overnight score of 338 for 3, finished their innings at a healthy 425 for 9 in 70 overs. Later, the former Mumbai Ranji Trophy speedster Shinde bowled a fiery spell picking up 5 for 45 and with good support from Yash Chavan (5/25), the Police team dismissed Hindu Gymkhana for 129 in 31.5 overs to complete the huge win.

Earlier, Hersh Tank 182 runs(Min. 186, Balls-147, 26 x 4, 5 x 6) and Swapnil Pradhan 112 runs (Min. 217, Balls-154, 12 x 4) had laid the foundation for Police to build a big total.

Meanwhile, Parag Khanapurkar came up with a solid unbeaten century effort scoring a fine 148 runs to steer Payyade Sports Club to a 5 wicket win over Cricket Club of India in Group-C match.

Batting first CCI were bowled out for 282 in 54.4 overs. Shashikant Kadam (49), Paul Valthaty (46), Sachin Yadav (40), Aniket Redkar (39) and Nikhil Patil Jr. (36) all made small but useful contributions. Rohan Raje (4/51) was the most impressive bowler for Payyade. In reply, Payyade Sports Club made 286 for 5 in 51.2 overs. Parag Khanapurkar led the charge scoring a 128 balls 148 not out. His knock contained 21 fours and five sixes. Abhishek Tiwari contributed an unbeaten 52 and Anish Chaudhary 39 to ensure Payyade cruised to victory.
