Mumbai Police down Catholic Gym


Greater Mumbai Police despite playing second fiddle to Catholic Gymkhana managed to score the lone goal of the contest and come out trumps by a 1-0 margin in a First Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League 2016-2017, and played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Monday evening. Sagar Rathore scored in the second half.

The Catholic Gym displayed better skillful and enjoyed more of ball possession. But, poor coordination and understanding was their main drawback as they were unable to translate their dominance into goals.

The policemen after soaking in loads of pressure did well to wrest the advantage through midfielder Rathore in the 52nd minute. Rathore showed good presence of mind as he spotted Catholic Gym goalkeeper Sabareesan Rajappan off his line cleverly fired a long 35-yard shot into an open net. Thereafter, the cops defended resolutely as the Catholic Gym youngsters tried their best to create chances to net the equalizer, which, however, proved elusive.
