Mumbai players shine at 3rd State Ranking Veterans’ TT at PTKS


Mumbai players from both City as well as Suburban district proved their superiority in the Jayshree Sampat Memorial 3rd State Ranking Veterans’ TT tournament jointly hosted by Maharashtra State Table tennis Association ( MSTTA) and Prabodhankar Thackeray Kreeda Sankul( PTKS) at latter’s premises in VileParle( East), Mumbai. Prominent among them were Yogesh Desai who played in Men’s 65+ Singles and Dr. Anagha Joshi who played in Women’s 50+ Singles. Both won their third consecutive title this season. While Yogesh stopped the winning run of  Percy Mehta , who had earlier beaten Suhas Kulkarni and Ulhas Shirke on his way to finals,  Anagha overcame Sneha Padhye in finals, who had upset second seeded Trupti Machve in semi finals.

It was all Mumbai battle in the men’s 50+ finals, when Prasad Naik scored his second title of the season beating Navin Salian 3-2. Others from Mumbai who claimed titles in their respective age groups were Prakash kelkar( Men’s 60+), Satish Kulkarni( Men’s 69+), A.S. Shaikh ( Men’s 75+) & Mangala Saraf ( Women’s 60+). Two more women from Mumbai namely Maria D’sa who upset Preeti Pardeshi  in Women’s 65+ section also received the honours, as the matches were played on league basis in this section.  One title went to  Solapur, when favourite and top seed Manish Rawat won the  finals of  Men’s 40+ section. Pune also bagged one title, when Sarika Varade beat favourite and top seed Sushma Mogare from Thane in Women’s 40+ finals.

The team event had attracted 60 entries in two groups from all over Maharashtra turned out to be the most exciting event. In the Group A team event for 40 and 50+ age group,  T.  Lac team from Nashik which had a balanced team beat Guru TT ‘C’ team from Mumbai , while P.J. Hindu Gymkhana scored an easy win  over PTKS ‘A’ team in 60+ team event.

The matches on one table were streamed live by Mobisportz. Veteran TT player and former veterans National champion Pinakin Sampat who had sponsored this tournament in memory of his wife late Jayshree Sampat had also participated in this tournament and was runner up in the Men’s 70+ section. He along with his two daughters Kruttika and Tweesha also gave away the prizes of one of the events. While speaking on the occasion,  Pinakin recalled  the memories of  his wife Jayshree who had toured along with him for several TT tournaments at National and international level in the past.

It was a very well organised tournament and special thanks to Organising secretaries Yogesh Desai and Sameer Bhate,MSTTA official and popular Veteran player Suhas Dandekar  and chief of PTKS Mr. Arwind Prabhu under whose able leadership this tournament was possible. His technical team comprising of Manish Deodhar, Rakesh Nigudkar, Naveen Verghese, kedar Khadilkar and others  along with chief referee Dominic Savio Lobo, the big team of Umpires , Satish Pingale the Chief Scorer  also displayed their excellent team work.
