Mumbai pip Kolhapur to meet Nagpur in Int-Dist Football final

Fancied Mumbai District came up with a good combined performance and managed to scrape past Kolhapur District by a 3-2 margin in a closely fought Sub-Juniors girls’ semi-final match of the WIFA Inter-District Football Championship 2019, played at the Palghar Taluka District SA ground, Boisar.

 

The Mumbai girls started in rousing fashion and asserted their dominance by taking the lead through Bhumika Mane’s strike in the sixth minute. Six minutes later junior India player Mehak Lobo was on target scoring the second goal. Kolhapur girls fought on gamely and reduced the deficit when consistent scorer Sanik Patil scored in the 18th minute.

 

Later, Tanisha Laud got Mumbai’s third goal in the 29th minute before Sanik struck Kolhapur’s second in the 55th minute.

 

Earlier, in the first semi-final, Nagpur District got the better of Pune District 8-7 via the penalty shootout tie-breaker after full time finished in an exciting 3-3 draw. Kajal Warthi, Muskan Upadhyay and Sneha Uikey scored for Nagpur in normal play while Pune scored through a brace of goal from Purva Gaikwad and one from Anika Khanolkar. In the tie-breaker Nagpur successfully converted all their five attempts through Sejal Patil, Sneha Vikey, Dhanashree Sherkure, Vinanti Pendan and Muskan Upadhyay. Pune scored four through Purva Gaikwad, Tanvi Kore, Sapna Rajpure and Urvi Salunkhe).

 

Results: Mumbai District 3 (Bhumika Mane, Mehak Lobo, Tanisha Laud) beat Kolhapur District 2 (Sanika Patil 2).

 

Nagpur District 8 (Muskan Upadhyay 2, Sneha Uikey 2, Kajal Warthi, Sejal Patil, Dhanashree Sherkure, Vinanti Pendan) beat Pune District 7 (Purva Gaikwad 3, Anika Khanolkar, Tanvi Kore, Sapna Rajpure, Urvi Salunkhe) via the tie-breaker. Full time 3-3.
