A disciplined Mumbai District emerged champions. The Mumbai girls’ produced another impressive performance to outplay Nagpur District coasting to an emphatic 5-0 victory in the Sub-Juniors girls’ finals of the WIFA Inter-District Football Championship 2019, played at the Palghar Taluka District SA ground, Boisar.
Junior India player Mehak Lobo played a stellar role scoring two early goals to give Mumbai a 2-0 half-time advantage. Later in the second period, Mehak’s teammates Riya D’Souza, Angeline Anthony and Ash D’Silva chipped in with one each to round off the winning tally.
The Mumbai girls started in attacking fashion and from Tanisha Laud’s swerving corner Mehak got to the end of the ball and slotted home to open the scoring in the fourth minute. Mehak was again on target heading home Tanisha’s flag-kick in the 18th minute.
After switching ends, Riya D’Souza put the finishing touch after being set up Priyanka Suresh in the fourth minute of the second half. Later, Riya provided the assist for Angeline to score the fourth goal before Ash struck the fifth after receiving Sai Sankhe’s pass late in the match.
