Mumbai Che Raje hold Chennai Challengers in a Thriller


After a solid start, Mumbai Che Raje fought hard to hold Chennai Challengers to a 34-34 draw in their 3rd match of the Indo International Premiere Kabaddi League played at Balewadi on Saturday.

Diljeet opened the scoring for Mumbai Che Raje after 2 empty raids but Chennai Challengers managed to put themselves back in the game with two raids and a bonus point to lead the game by 3-1. Mumbai Che Raje’s defenders did well to hold their ground while the Raiders scored points at the other end to take a 6-3 lead with 3 minutes to go. Diljeet and Karambir ensured Mumbai ended the first quarter with an 8-5 lead.

 

Chennai Challengers quietly upped the ante scoring 2 points in a super tackle and 2 raid points to get back to an 11-9 lead with 5 minutes to go. Karambir helped Mumbai Che Raje score a few quick points and get back to a 15-13 lead. Mumbai Che Raje scored another point, intercepting Chennai’s Do or Die raid to end the 2nd quarter with a 16-13 lead.

 

Just when Mumbai Che Raje had started to pick the Chennai team apart, Karambir’s faulty raid awarded them a super tackle and 2 valuable points, helping them level scores at 19-19. Mumbai Che Raje finally managed to get the elusive all out and with less than 3 minutes to go for the 3rd quarter Mumbai Che Raje were leading the game 24-20. Manveer Kantha turned the game around for Mumbai Che Raje taking down 4 opponents in the raid to give his team a decisive 28-21 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

 

Manveera Kantha proved to be the pick of the raiders today as he scored 2 more valuable points for his team, with the scoreline reading 31-25 and 5 minutes to go Mumbai Che Raje looked poised to win the tie. Chennai Challengers were starting to put pressure on Mumbai with back to back points closing the gap at 28-31. The game got dangerously close at 33-34 in favour of Mumbai Che Raje with less than a minute to go. Manveera failed to make a successful do or die raid with enabled Chennai Challengers enforce a draw at 34-34.
