There has been a lot of curiosity among TT lovers, how the MSL TT tourney is played. On the first day of this tourney had therefore received a very good response. The very first match saw the importance of 3 doubles matches. These three doubles matches are played alternately, from the fourth match onwards, after the veterans’, men’s and women’s singles matches in this team event. The fourth match is of Junior Girls and Boys combination mixed doubles, followed by Cadet Boys Singles as 5th match.
In this format all nine matches have to be played and each match win gets 10 points for the team. So, even if a particular team all five matches in a row, the rest of the matches have to be played. Therefore, the sixth match is of Mixed doubles with the players selected for men’s and women’s singles as partners. This is followed by Girls singles 7th match and Men’s doubles 8th match with the combination of players who have played Men’s singles and Veterans singles. The last match comprises of Jr. Boys singles. So, the youngest player selected to play cadet Boys singles gets only one match. Players in Jr. Boys ,Girls, Women and Veterans get two matches each. But, the lead player in the team is required to play 3 matches , i.e. Men’s singles, Sr. Mixed Doubles and Sr. men’s doubles.
The matches played in the morning session of the second day’s play of this tournament, clearly gave an indication that the tuning between the partners involved in these three doubles matches. All the three matches were very close, as MTC Royals beat Century Warriors 5-4, Ace beat Top Spinners 5-4 and Supreme Fighters beat King Pong also with the narrow margin of 5-4. Therefore, it is not necessary that a player who is a good singles player, can also perform well in doubles. And, this has generated more interest in MSL TT Tourney.
