Mumbai Taekwondo Academy (MTA) claimed the top honours winning the overall team championship in the inaugural Mumbai Consul General Cup National Taekwondo Championship, at the Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex, Dharavi.
Representatives of the five individual teams which finished amongst the top 5 positions pose with their trophies at the end of of the inaugural Mumbai Consul General Cup National Taekwondo Championship.
Strong favourites, MTA team finished with a cumulative tally of 76 medals (39 golds, 17 silver, 20 bronze) and with 433 points clinched the first position. They enjoyed a solid 40 points lead over second-placed Delhi Taekwondo Academy, who finished with a total of 393 points (37 golds, 18 silver, 8 bronze), while the HUFA Mumbai finished second runners-up with 239 points in total (20 gold, 13 Silver, 12 bronze).
In the concluding bouts, Kashish Joon from Delhi claimed the gold medal defeating MTA’s Prapati Jaiswal in the final of the women’s Under-55 kgs category.
In a men’s Under-87 kgs finals, Sagar Kumar Dagar of The Dream Sports Club, Delhi, outclassed Sagnik Sen of Roy’s Taekwondo Academy to win the gold medal.
Overall top 5 standings: 1. Mumbai Taekwondo Academy 39 gold, 17 silver, 20 bronze – 433 points; 2. Delhi 37 gold, 18 silver, 8 bronze – 393 points; 3. HUFA Mumbai 20 gold, 13 silver, 12 bronze – 239 points; 4. Swaraj Sports Foundation – Kooh Sports 15 gold, 20 silver, 8 bronze – 217 points; 5. Maharashtra Taekwondo Training Centre 14 gold, 11 silver, 17 bronze – 190 points.
