Mumbai Police Cityriders open their campaign against Bandra Heroes in the 5-team Mitsui Shoji T-20 League- Season-7 at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana on the opening day (Tuesday, May 2). While the defending champions Ghatkopar Jets face Thane Marathas the next day morning followed by Shivaji Park Warriors against the Police Cityriders in the afternoon.
All the five teams vie for the glittering trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs The league is presented by Morgen and Steven and hosted by MCC–Jwala Sports Foundation. The final will be held under floodlights at the same venue on May 20, this was disclosed by Mr Jwala Singh, the director and organising secretary of the league.
Giving further details, Mr Jwala Singh said the league will be played on double-leg basis and the team finishing at the bottom of the table gets eliminated. He said some of the current and past internationals, top Ranji trophy and first division players will be playing in one of the teams alongwith selected juniors. Last year legendary Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas and Jehan Mubarak were part of the league. The league has been supported by Mr Lal Bharwaney, CEO, Mitusi Shoji, who continues to be the main sponsors of the leagued.
As part of the opening ceremony, the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai will be playing a 20-over match against Mitsui Shoji XI in the morning at the Police Gymkhana ground.
