MIG,Payyade score contrasting wins


Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament Report

MIG Cricket Club and Payyade Sports Club registered contrasting victories in their respective second round matches of the Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. sponsored ‘70th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament’.

 

In a Group-B match, MIG CC playing on their home ground defeated P.J. Hindu Gymkhana by a huge 262 runs margin. Meanwhile, Payyade did well to pull off a narrow 20-run victory against defending champions Karnatak Sporting Association in a Group-A encounter.

 

MIG bolstered by the double century knock from Sumit Ghadigaonkar 229 runs  (Min. 261, Balls-203, 27×4, 3×6) completed their  innings at a mammoth total of 419 for the loss of seven wickets from their quota of 70 overs. Swapnil Pradhan (75) and Gaurav Jathar (58 not out) made useful contributions to the total, while Salil Agharkar (4/130) was the only successful bowler for Hindu Gym. Chasing a daunting target the Hindu Gym battling flopped completely against the left arm spin of  Vinit Dhulap (7/55) and were skittle out for 157 in 35.5 overs. Nishad Gabhawala (44) was the only batter to get some runs.

Payyade SC resuming at their overnight total of 269 /4 finished their innings at 327 for the loss of seven wickets. Akash Anand 109 runs (Min. 210, Balls-178, 7×4), Parag Khanapurkar (86 not out), Harsh Tank (55) and Rahul Lad 45 proped the Payyade innings. Later, spinner Vinit Dhulap (7 for 55) tormented the Karnatak batsmen and was mainly responsible in bowling them out for 307 runs from 57.2 overs to help Payyade clinch a close win.
