MIG Cricket Club ‘A’ team players combined well and scored two successive wins in Group-A league matches of the Suhas Nadkarni Memorial Yonex Sunrise Maharashtra State Open Badminton Tournament 2023, organized by the MIG Cricket Club under the auspices of the Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) and played at the MIG Cricket Club courts, Bandra on Wednesday.
In the first round, MIG ‘A’ defeated Masters Sports Club 3-0. Nikhil Kolhatkar and Prashant Bahatre overcame the spirited fight from Sachin Kshatriya and Zubair Sorathia clinching a close 30-25 win in the opening rubber. Later, Niranjan Sahane and Raghav Bhosale got the better of Mahesh Chhabria 30-18 to give MIG a 2-0 lead. In the third rubber Mangrish Palekar and Mayur Tawade easily defeated the Masters SC pair of Abhishek Sharma and Nigel D’Sa recording a 30-18 win.
Later, the MIG ‘A’ team continued with their impressive performances and blanked Mathoshri Sports Club 3-0 to register their second win in the 5-team group.
However, the MIG ‘B’ team were unable to raise their game and suffered defeats in both their matches. In the first match they went down fighting to Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana 0-3 and later lost to Navodaya by a similar score line.
