The Mumbai Hockey Association Limited (MHAL) will felicitate the 20-member Mumbai Junior boys team that emerged victorious in the 6th Hockey India Junior Boys National Championship (B Division) held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Raipur, Chhattisgarh last month. The Junior Mumbai team has won the National title after almost four decades.
The felicitation function will be held during the final of the ongoing 12th Guru Tegh Bahadur All India Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at the MHAL Stadium, Churchgate on Friday, June 10 at 5.30 pm.
“The MHAL President, Mr. Mangha Singh Bakshi and the Executive Managing Committee members decided at the last committee meeting to honour the players and the coach and manager. The committee has sanctioned an amount of Rs 2 lakhs to be presented as cash awards to the winning team,” informed Ram Singh Rathor, Hon. Secretary, MHAL.
Each member of the team, coach Ibrahim Mulla and manager Amrit Kiro will be presented with a memento and cash award Rs 10,000 each.
The Mumbai lads had clinched the crown by shooting down Hockey Maharashtra 6-5 via the penalty shootout after both teams were locked 3-3 at the end of regulation time.
Naresh Telang and Prince Chaurasia, both represented Union Bank of India in the Guru Tegh Bahadur tournament.
