MGMO, Hindu Bath emerge water-polo champions


MGMO and hosts P.M.Hindu Bath emerge boys and girls champions in the GAF-GMAAA junior water-polo league, played at P.M.Hindu Bath pool, last night.

The boys final produce thrills galore with MGMO boys holding a slight edge right through the contest. They were 2-1 in the first quarter. The second quarter saw both adding a goal each, but, it was the third quarter that brought the best in the MGMO boys as they not only added two more goals to their tally, they kept  their opponents at bay. The last  quarter too was a tense affair as both  fought tooth and nail, but it was MGMO’s ability to hold on their slender lead that saw them emerging champions. Karan Shukla and Prasad Hirlekar scored a brace each for the winners, while Kairav Nanavaty was credited with all the three goals for the losers. The MGMO’s goalkeeper  Ahishek Jaiswal, who blocked their opponents’ moves under the bar time and again,  was adjudged the Most Valuable Player.

The girls final was quite a thrilling affair too. Both Matunga Gymkhana and hosts P.M.Hindu Bath  fought hard with neither of them getting an upper hand. The end score-line 5-all tells the tale. The Hosts PMHB were declared winners, on the basis of better goal aggregate in the first leg (4-2) against Matunga Gymkhana  in the double-leg league. Ashwini Bhutta who was their star player, was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the girls section.

Results of the finals:BOYS: MGMO 4 (Karan Shukla 2, Prasad Hirlekar 2) bt P.M.Hindu Bath 3 (Kairav Nanavaty 3).

GIRLS:  P.M.Hindu Bath 5 (Ashwini Bhuta 3, Rucha Mhatre 2) drew with Matunga Gymkhana 5 (Diya Gupta 2, Shloka Motta 2, Tanisha Motta) – on the basis of former’s better aggregate in the first leg.
