A disciplined bowling performance from medium pacer Aquib Kureshi (4 for 25) was the feature of MCA Colts convincing 5-wicket win against hosts Bombay Gymkhana in a first round match of the Nirlon Ltd. sponsored R.F.S. Talyarkhan Memorial Invitation Cricket Tournament 2018-2019, organized by Bombay Gymhana, under the auspices of MCA and played under floodlights at the Gymkhana’s ground late on Wednesday evening.
After MCA Colts skipper Jay Bista elected to field Aquib quickly got down to business and picked up a wicket in his first over when he trapped opener Harsh Tank for just one run. He then claimed two more quick wickets and with good support from Anjdeep Lad (2/26) they dismissed Bombay Gym for a paltry 109 in 18.5 overs. Bombay Gym’s other opener Ankit Shastri batted steadily in scoring 48 runs and middle order bat Parag Khanapurkar made a useful contribution of 20 runs before their innings folded at 109.
In reply, MCA Colts comfortably chased down the target scoring 114 for 5 wickets in just 15.4 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal (18), Armaan Jaffer (29) and Chinmay Suttar (30 not out) carried the youngsters to victory. MCA Colts crossed the finish line in style with Chinmay hoisting Pradeep Sahu for a huge six to seal their win and a place in the semi-final.
Bombay Gym bowlers Gaurav Bengre (3/18) and Sagar Mishra (2/29) picked up the wickets.
