V. Subramaniam of Matunga Gymkhana produced a composed performance and breezed to a 3-0 win against Nikhil Ghadge of Western Railway SA in a second round match of the Khar Gymkhana Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2018 and played at the Khar Gymkhana billiards room.

Fondly known as ‘Raja’ in the cue sports circles, Subramaniam (+25) potted steadily and grabbed his chances to score consistently and snuff out the challenge from Ghadge (+35) as he stormed to a 85-79, 85-42 and 91-84 victory.

 

In contrast, Bombay Gymkhana’s Abhishek Bajaj had to bring out his best to overcame a spirited challenge from Pune cueist Viren Sharma by a tight 3-2 margin in a keenly contested second round encounter. Bajaj (+30) after trailing 1-2 came up with a late charge against Sharma (+25) and managed to pocket the last two frames to close out a 71-90, 85-52, 50-90, 84-50, and 89-79 win to advance to the third round.

Meanwhile, seasoned pros Hasan Badmi of Cricket Club of India and Khar Gymkhana’s Yasin Merchant warmed up nicely by winning their respective second round matches.

 

Badami playing with a +10 handicap started on a high and rolled breaks of 44 and 38 in the opening two frames and went on defeat Mihir Panchal (+50) of Lalbaug by a comfortable 3-1 (81-72, 98-59, 83-88 and 90-85) win.

 

Former two-time Asian Champion, Yasin made light of his scratch handicap and showed his class and without much difficulty romped to an easy 3-1 win against Jagdish Khade (+40) of Thane. Playing on his home tables Yasin compiled breaks of 49 and 30 in the second frame and hit 41 run in the third and coasted to a 50-78, 83-40, 119-43 and 109-49 victory.
