Matunga Gymkhana put up a determined fight and managed to record a narrow one-wicket win against National CC in a second round Div-C match of the 2nd MCA Women’s Cricket League at the Matunga Gymkhana ground.
Batting first, National CC managed to make 168 for 8 wickets from their 40 overs. Number three bat Dhruvi Trivedi scored 53 runs from 67 balls with five boundaries to lift the National innings. Lavanya Shetty chipped in with 20 runs while Matunga Gymkhana’s left-arm spinner Anannya Shetty 3 for 29, leg-spinner Diya Chalwad 2 for 29 and off-spinner Jahnavi Bhosale 2 for 35 picked the wickets.
In reply, Matunga Gymkhana struggled a bit, but managed to score 169 for 9 wickets from 36.4 overs. Leading Matunga Gymkhana’s fightback was opener Juhi Rawat who top-scored with 61 runs from just 57 balls and cracked nine boundaries. The other batters who ensured their win was Vaibhavi Raja 28 runs and Ankita Gaikar 24 runs. National CC bowlers Rennie Fernandes 3 for 14, Arya Davane 2 for 29 and Poorva Kende 2 for 30 claimed the wickets.
In a Div-D match, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana’s off-spinner Archi Yadav’s fantastic bowling efforts of 6 for just 7 runs from 3.5 went in vain as the batters disappointed and they suffered a 29-runs defeat against Mandvi Muslim Sports Club.
Mandvi Muslims SC amassed a total of 135 all out in 25.5 overs. Kashvi Hoslakar 37 runs, Reeya Bhavsar 27 runs and Sharvari More 22 runs propped the Mandvi Muslims innings, while Aarchi Yadav did most of the damage with her six-wicket haul.
Later, Mandvi Muslim bowled and fielded well to restrict Hindu Gymkhana to 106 all out in 33.2 overs. Riddhi Goswami was the lone batter to score 37 runs, while Mugdha Pisat 4 for 16 and Kanku Ahir 3 for 18 bowled tidily to help Mandvi Muslim clinch the win.
