Mariya, Avinash win 100m sprint


Mariya Karachiwala sprinted to a fine 100m win in the girls under-18 section on the First Sunday Mornings Athletics meet, organized by  Mumbai University in association with the India Masters Athletics  at the University Stadium, Marine lines here today. An athlete of  bygone era athlete stated that way back in the late seventies such type of meet used to be held. Some of the athletes welcomed therevival of suchtype of meet and stated it will definitely be helpful to them to keep themselves fit and trim.

With rain pouring all through the morning, Mariya   took a quick start and beat Kritika Devadiga to the tape, clocking  13.8 seconds in the 100m run for girls under-18. In  the men’s 100m sprint, Avinash Dubey from Sprinters Sports Club, pipped Anand Singh from Golden Eagle, at the post. Avinash recorded an impressive 11.4 seconds, followed by Anand, who timed  11.6 secs.  While in the under-18 boys 200m run, Darshan Bandal, also from Sprinters Sports Club, claimed gold with a timing of 25.3 seconds.

Winners in the various   events were:

 

Men: 100m: Avinash Dubey (Sprinters SC) – 11.4 secs. Shot Put: Rahul Krishna (Track & Fieldmaster) – 13.27 mts.

 

Women: 1500m: Aditi Patil (Lake City Trust) – 5:23.8 secs. Discus throw: Krithika Krishnakumar (Individual) – 27.22 mts.

 

Girls U-18: 100m: Mariya Karachiwala  (individual) – 13.8 secs.

 

Boys U-18: 200m:  Darshan Bandal (Sprinters SC) – 25.3 secs. Shot Put: Mandar Kamdekar (Trackmasters) – 12.10 mts.

 

Girls U-16: Discus Throw:  Tanishta Dineshkumar (Individual)–22.19 mts.

 

Boys U-16: 1500m: Vaibhav Shah (Lake City Trust) – 5:08. 9 secs.
