Number 1 and 2 seed Mahesh Mangaonkar and Abhishek Pradhan remained unchallenged entering the quarterfinals of the 43rd Maharashtra State Men’s Squash tournament, organised under the aegis of SRFI and SRAM and sponsored by JSW and Raheja Vivarea at the Bombay Gymkhana glass-back squash courts on Tuesday.
Mahesh Mangaonkar was up against Yash Bhargava, seeded in the 17/32 bracket, who could not match the speed and power of the India No 3 and succumbed to a 11-7, 11-4, 11-5 defeat. Earlier, in round 3, Mahesh trashed the unseeded Aryaman Jaising who had a good run before losing 2-11, 5-11, 2-11. Abhishek Pradhan was challenged by a lower ranked Kunj Rawani, who put up a good fight but ended up on the losing side as Abhishek put his experience to good use to prevail 11-7, 11-8, 12-10.
16-year-old Yash Fadte who is on a roll in the tournament eliminated unseeded Awdesh Yadav without breaking a sweat, winning 11-1, 11-4, 11-5. Meanwhile, the [3/4] seed Gaurav Nandarjog sailed through to the quarterfinals by beating Akhilesh Kumar Yadav seeded in the [9/16] bracket 11-8, 11-6, 11-2.
