Malabar Hill Club senior 15-red snooker
Mumbai’s seasoned player Manav Panchal was in good nick and potted consistently to quell the challenge from young cueist Shahyan Razmi, also from Mumbai, by cruising to a 4-1 win in a Senior men’s 15-red snooker pre-quarter-final match of the Malabar Hill Club State Ranking Snooker Tournament 2024, played at the MHC billiards hall on Tuesday.
Manav, a member of Malabar Hill Club, was in total control and rolled in a break of 46 points in the second frame. He also won the third and raced to a 3-0 lead. The young Shahyan was quite nervous and struggled with his pots, but he managed to win the fourth to halt Panchal from running away with the match. Panchal regained his composure and grabbed every opportunity to build small breaks to pocket the fifth and complete a deserving 67-25, 60-26, 71-31, 50-67, and 62-32 frame scores victory.
Thane’s Krishna Tohgaonkar struck prime form and outclassed Pune’s Gaurav Desmukh charging to a 4-0 (77-1, 61-30, 58-44, and 71-47) win to advance to the quarter-finals.
Sumit Ahuja of Ulhasnagar also progressed to the quarter-finals recording a 4-1 win against Pune’s Sonu Matang (Pune) in another last 16 encounter. Ahuja compiled one break of 54 in third frame ad went on secure a 89-56, 25-58, 82-11, 69-25, and 79-30 win.
