Team ‘Like Minded’ represented by Purshottam Markad, Nitish Kumar D and Prashant Machve combined very well with their balanced side to stop the winning run of MCF Club Borivali in the 59+ team event of the Late Vilas Mantri and Jagannath Mohite memorial Table Tennis tournament organised by newly formed Masters’ Players Committee MMTTC at PTKS , Vile Parle today.
MCF Club which was equally balanced side led by Praful Wagh along with Sanjay Jain, Gomes and Mahesh Shetye on his side,began their day in 59+ team event very well , first defeating Kalidas Mulund ‘C’ easily with 3-0 margin. This was followed by a surprise win 3-1 over Jagan’s Warriors ( A team formed as a tribute to Late Jagannath Mohite) , with Sanjay Jain playing the hero of this match winning both his singles against Ashok Sawant and current World Veterans’ Champion Yogesh Desai in a closely contested five game battle.Sanjay partnering with Prafull wagh also won the crucial doubles against Yogesh Desai and Ulhas Shirke.
However, their joy was short lived, as they went down fighting against ‘Like Minded’ team 2-3. For the winning team Purshottam Markad played the star role winning both his singles and winning the crucial doubles along with Prashant Machve. For losing team Prafull and Sanjay won one match each against Nitish Kumar.
Earlier in the day, the family members of Late Vilas Mantri and Jagannath Mohite lighted the traditional lamp during the inaugural ceremony. The tournament has received an overwhelming response from many former TT players who came from far off places to pay tribute to the two TT legends, in whose memory this tournament was organised. Most of them have made their comeback into Masters’ Tourney through this tournament. Former Table Tennis player and Organiser from Khar Gymkhana described this tournament as a big success.
