Former international Badminton player Leroy D’sa will now be seen in the role of an administrator. Over the years the former champion and Doubles specialist has been active playing the game of Badminton in some of the tournaments, including team events while playing for P.J. Hindu Gymkhana. As a coach he has produced many prominent players, including his son Nigel D’sa. Leroy has also trained his Maria into Badminton, who was earlier a TT player. Both husband and wife take part in the World Veterans Badminton Championship every year.
Leroy who has been a member of P. J. Hindu Gymkhana for almost 40 years now, has in the past worked on the managing committee of the Gymkhana in the past in the capacity of Badminton department secretary. But, this year, on the request of his well wishers and friends, he decided to contest for the post of Vice President and won the elections held during the last week end. In a triangular contest for this post, Leroy defeated his strongest opponent Mr. Kamal Marfatia with a margin of 21 votes. His friend Rajendra Koradia a former badminton player was elected as President in straight contestagainst veteran Ramesh Panchamatia .
With many new ideas in mind, Leroy wants to focus more on promotion of all sports activities in the Gymkhana. Both Mr. Pranav Chikhal and Alpesh Dharia were re elected for the post of Jt. Hon Secretaries, while Chirag Desai and Nimesh Soni were elected for the post of Jt.Treasurers in a strong contest among six contenders. Dhruv Sitwala and Amit Shroff were elected unopposed for the posts of Hon. Billiards and Hon. Tennis Secretary respectively. The other two close straight contests in Table Tennis and Badminton departments , Miten Khatau defeated Jaideep Maheshwari, while Bhupendra Mehta scored over Deepak Shah.
Sumeet S Anand was elected as Hon.Secretary for Gymnastics, Field Training, carom bridge & Chess. He defeated his rival Dhaval Jani, while Bharatkumar Gandhi retained his seat as Hon.Special member, defeating Hemant Bhotica. For the post of Hon.Additional member Rajesh Dilip Mehta was declared winner against Hemant Koradia. The new managing committee will take over from 1st October 2018.
