94 year old Rasipuram Laxman, the legendary Indian cartoonist, illustrator, and humorist; popularly known as R.K.Laxman, is no more. He passed away today evening in Pune, after suffering multiple organ failure.
Best known for his creation The Common Man, for his daily cartoon strip, “You Said It” in The Times of India, Mr. R.K.Laxman began his career as a cartoonist in 1951.
R. K. Laxman was born in Mysore. His father was a headmaster. Mr. Laxman was the youngest of six sons.
Brother of famous novelist R.K.Narayan, he is survived by his writer wife Ms.kamala, retired journalist son Srinivas and daughter-in law Usha. Last year, he along with his wife were felicitated by Union Bank of India with Lifetime achievement award and both of them had come on a wheelchair, to collect their awards.
Recipient of Padma Vibhushan, he was also conferred with Magsaysay award in 1984 for Journalism and Creative communication.
