Kuwale brothers win doubles crown; Naysha Taarini claim silver medals


The Kuwale brothers Viplav and Viraj of Greater Mumbai clinched the Men’s doubles title in the recently concluded Maharashtra Senior State Selection Badminton Tournament. The top-seeded pair of Viplav and Viraj defeated the mixed pairing of Pratik Ranade (Thane) and Shubham Patil (Jalgaon) 21-17, 21-16 in 25 minutes in the final played at the Yashawant Mahavidyalaya Sports Complex, Nanded.

The Greater Mumbai shuttlers after 15 years have once again won the Men’s doubles crown. In 2007, Vikrant Patwardhan and Mangirish Palekar emerged champions in the 1st State Selection tournament at MIG. In the same period, Palekar along with Mayur Ghatnekar had won the State Championship and the 2nd State Selection Tournament.

Meanwhile, Greater Mumbai’s junior shuttlers, Naysha Batoye and Taarini Suri bagged the silver medals at the All India Major Ranking Badminton Tournament at Goa.

Naysha finished runner-up in the U-15 Girls singles event and Taarini Suri along with partner Shravani Walekar, also lost in the final, of the U-17 Girls doubles event.

The number one seed Naysha found the going tough against Telangana’s fifth seed Tanvi Reddy Andluri and lost in straight games at 17-21, 16-21 in 39 minutes in Navelim, Goa.

The Maharashtra duo of Taarini and Shravani went down to the Tamil Nadu combination of Srinidhi N. and Pravandhika R., losing in two games at 13-21, 15-21 in 31 minutes.
