Karjat: Khapoli’s KMC College after a goalless first half struck soon after in the 35th minute through Prathemesh Yadav to beat Panvel’s Pillais College by a solitary goal and capture the trophy in the inaugural Inter-collegiate football tournament organized in memory of late Gurdip Singh Anand, being organized at far-flung Al Universal University ground at Karjat.
The match started on a tense note as both the teams fought tooth and nail all the way in the first half. KMC goalkeeper Karthik Rao did a good job under the bar and baulked several attempts by the Pillais forwards as the tie remained goalless. It was, however, in the second half that brought the all-important winner in the 35st minute as Prathemesh receiving a ball from Aditya Ankush, pushed the ball home.
Earlier, both the finalists prevailed over their respective opponents via tie-breakers. KMC beat Kandivali’s Thakur College 4-3 while Pillais scored over Bandra’s Rizvi College by identical 4-3 score.
The individual award winners were: Best goal-keeper – Karthik Rao (KMC)- Golden Boot; Best forward-Neetesh More (KMC); Best Defende: Amandeep S (Pillais) and Promising Goalkeeper- Vipul Kirjat.
