Iron Born FC scored two late goals in quick succession through industrious striker Mohammed Khatib to overcome Kenkre FC 2-1 in a well-contested Premier Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2023-2024 and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra.
Both Iron Born and Kenkre FC were engaged in a keen tussle for supremacy and there were many goal-scoring opportunities created at eight end, but the scorebard stayed blank till the 80th minute.
Iron Born broke the deadlock with Khatib scoring the first of his two goals in the 81st minute. He was again bang on target scoring the second goal two minutes later to give his team a solid 2-0 cushion. Kenkre fought on gamely and managed to reduce the margin when substitute Afzar Noorani scored their lone goal deep into stoppage time.
In Third Division encounters, Our Lady of Fatima riding of Sujal Dabhole’s brace of goals defeated Rising Colaba FC 5-0 at the Karnatak Sporting Association ground, Cross Maidan. Dobhole’s teammates, Anthony Fernandes, Aditya Gawa and Aryan Marchande contributed one goal each to complete the winning tally.
Victorians SC blanked Govandi United by a clear 3-0 margin. Strikers Smith Koli, Soham Narvekar and Rahul Yadhge scored one goal each to complete Victorians victory.
Earlier, Holy Cross FA got the better of BVSS Sports Club by a comfortable 2-0 scoreline. Opportunistic goal-scorer Josh Rodrigues scored both the goals to seal Holy Cross win and pocket the full three points.
