Raj Khandwala of Cricket Club of India and Raajeev Sharma of Malabar Hill Club advanced to the third round of the Bombay Gymkhana Handicap Billiards Tournament.
Khandawala (-125 handicap), showed good touch and pounced on every opportunity to compile small useful breaks and went on to outshine Malabar Hill Club’s Nitin Banka (-90) by romping to a comfortable 200-123 points margin of victory in the race-to-200 points second round match, played at the Bombay Gymkhana billiards hall.
Seasoned campaigner Sharma (-160) hardly encountered much resistance from Mitun Merchant (+10) of Cricket Club of India and with one half century effort of 56, he raced to a 200-151 win.
Sharma will next meet Elphinstone Cricket Club’s Cyrus Mistry in the third and final qualifying round match. Mistry (-100) was cool and composed against the experienced Hemant Kumar (-200) of Railways, who found his handicap a bit stiff. The ECC cueist with a steady performance and good safety play managed to tame Kumar as he clinched a 200-97 points win.
