Otters Club’s Kenisha Gupta rewrote 50m back stroke and 200m individual medley records in girls under-14 events , while Rayna Saldanha of Glenmark Aquatic Foundation bagged triple gold, but nornew records in the girls under-17 section of the GAF-GMAAA age group swimming championships, held at Tata Swimming Pool, at Chembur, here today. Overall six more new records were added to the opening day’s five with girls again taking the major share with five of them.

Kenisha won the 50m free style in 0:27.77 secs, thus bettering Avntika Chavan’s 2011 timing of 00:28.72 secs and in the 200m individual medley, Kenisha’s timing of 02:33.86 was better than her teammate Aakanksha Vora’s 02:36.60. But GAF’s Rayna Saldanha was way ahead of her rivals while winning the 400nm 800m and 200m individual medley events.”I was not stretched by my rivals, that perhaps is the reason I could not improve my timings., she said.

Sharing the opening day’s honours with Palak was Otters Club’s Vedika Amin, who bagged golds in the 100m back stroke and 100m free style events in the same section. The lone boy to figure among record-breakers was GAF’s Sushrut Kapse, who won the 1500m free style event( 17:31.46 secs ) in the boys –I category. Sushrut thus bettered the 2013 record 17:37.20 secs,set by Vedant Rao , also from Otters Club.
Among boys, only Sushsrut Kapse, also from Glenmark Aquatic Foundation, alongwith GAF’s Vedant Bapna figured among record-breakers. Having won the 1500m free style event in record-breaking effort (9:04.81) in the boys undere-17 section on the opening day, he added the 800m gold (9:04.81 ) by improving upon the the old timing of 9:05.83 secs, set by Otters’ Ishaan Jaffer in 2014 While Vedant topped in the boys under-14 by winning in the 100m back stroke event, clocking 1:05:53 seconds, which proved to be better than Aaryan Bhosale’s last year’s timing of 1:08.01 secs.

GIRLS: U-14: 50 m Free Style: Kenisha Gupta (Otters) – 0:27.77 secs (Previous record-0:36.86 secs.). 200m Individual Medley: Kenisha Gupta (Otters) – 02:33.67 secs. (Previous record – 02:36.86 secs). U-12: 50m Breast Stroke: Vedika Amin (Otters) – 0:36.44 secs. (Previous record-0:37.60 sec). 50m Free Style: Sanjiti Saha (khar Gym) – 0:29.10 secs. (Previous record- 0:29.84 secs).
