Striker Kaustubh Sawant struck two goals in quick succession which helped Nine Stars Football Club get the better of Charkop Football Club 2-1 in a keenly contested Group-A match of the 5th Borivali Football League (BFL) – 2022, conducted under the auspices of the Mumbai Football Association, and played at the St. Francis D’Assisi HS ground, Borivali. All three goals came in the second session.
The Borivali League is being supported by MOC (Mumbai Oncocare Centre) and PCPL (Pranav Constructions Private Limited).
Midway through the second half, Sawant pounced on a gilt-edged chance to score the first goal and immediately was on target with the second goal to give his team a 2-0 advantage.
Charkop FC fought well and managed to pull one back with striker Rituraj Nirvama find the back of the Nine Stars net in the second minute of additional period.
Shikhar More of Nine Stars was declared ‘Man of the Match’ and was presented with a medal.
Later, in the second match of the same group, Maryland Football Club and Vibrants Football Club shared honours as they were engaged in a 1-1 draw.
Canute Fernandes scored in the 60th minute to put Maryland in the lead, before Vibrants restored parity when Nidhin Joseph scored in the 70th minute to ensure his team split two points. Dheeraj Singh of Vibrants FC won the ‘Man of the Match’ award.
Results – Group-A: Maryland FC 1 (Canute Fernandes 60′) drew with -Vibrants FC 1 (Nidhin Joseph 70′).
Nine stars FC 2 (Kaustubh Sawant 50′, 51′) beat Charkop FC 1 (Rituraj Nirvama 70+2′).
