A determined Karnataka Amateurs Sports Club after trailing 2-0 gallantly fought back to hold Mogaveera Sports Club to a fighting 2-2 draw in a league match of the 25th Shri Ramanath Payyade Memorial Football Tournament 2022-23, played at the Karnatak Sporting Association (KSA) ground on Sunday. The one point earned, ensured Karnataka Amateurs qualify for the quarter-finals.
Mogaveera started in positive fashion and grabbed the upper hand by scoring two goals through Murad Mohd and Abhishek Michael to take a 2-0 half-time lead. But, Karnataka Amateurs came roaring back and started to apply pressure on the rival defence in the second half and their efforts were rewarded with two goals through Gaurav Rao and Sumeet Salian to force a draw and share two points.
Meanwhile, Union Sports Club prevailed over Bombay Fort SC 3-1 to enhance their chances for qualification to the quarter final stage. Kumar Rathod, Ajay Poojary and Sunil Gurung were on target for the winning team while Pranav Shetty scored for the loser.
Earlier, Jaihind Sports Club was in good form and charged to a 5-0 win against Udaya Sports Club in another league encounter. Shrinath Rathod scored a brace of goals while Sunil Rathod, Kumar Rathod and Akash Rathod scored one each to complete Jaihind’s winning tally.
