Defending champions Kandivali Cricket Association, helped by a well-calculated knock of 72 by Yogesh Poojari, defeated Ours CC by four wickets in the semi finals of the Gordhandas Suburban Shield cricket tournament played, played on 20 overs basis at Fort Vijay (Azad Maidan) here today. The holders next take on Yogi Cricket Club, who upset fancied Khar Gymkhana earlier in the other semifinal by identical four-wicket margin.
Ours CC, opting to bat fist, hit up 140 for six of the allotted 20 overs with substantial contributions from Sushant Manjrekar, Amit Rathod, and Dushan Kadam. But the last year’s winners’ top-order batsmen did not take any undue risks , and yet kept the score-board moving. They maintained 5-6 runs per over average. Poojari with skipper Umang Shah put on 61 runs for the third wicket which the paved the way for their achieving the target in 19.3 overs. Poojari played a sedate knock of 72which contained seven fours.
The other semi final saw, Khar Gymkhana putting up a sizeable score of 140 for six with Priyank Shetty top-scoring with 74. However, Yogi CC batsmen led by Ravindra Vishwakarma’s unbeaten 72 saw them through.
