Prolific Kamran Ansari and Jahan Walia, both played stellar roles by scoring a goal each to shape the fortunes of the Mumbai District FA team and take them to the final of the Maharashtra State Inter-District Football Championship. In a well-fought semi-final encounter Mumbai blanked Nagpur District FA 2-0 at the PDFA ground, Pune on Saturday evening.
Kamran gave Mumbai the lead when he slotted home in the first minute of first half additional period before his teammate Jahan against the run of play scored the second goal in the 72nd minute to seal Mumbai’s win and confirm their passage to the summit round.
In Sunday’s final, Mumbai will cross swords with Pune District FA, who prevailed over Nashik District FA by a comfortable 3-1 margin. Strikers Edwin Falero, Ratan Ausarmal and Chris Unnithan, netted a goal each for the Pune side, while Nashik reduced the deficit through Aniket Avhad.
