Kalina Village Boys (KVB) ‘A’ emerged triumphant, winning the Men’s Open title in the 15th Kalina Football League -2015, organised by the Our Lady of Egypt Church Sports Committee, and played at the St. Mary’s High School ground, Kalina.
The victorious Kalina Village Boys ‘A’ team are seen in a happy mood as they pose with the Champions Trophy along with Chief Guest Steven Dias, a former India player.
In the final, Kalina Village Boys produced a good disciplined display and managed to overcome a spirited IndoNest outfit by a close 2-1 margin. Sheldon Sharma and Dexter Rodrigues were on target for Village Boys while Chris Fernandes scored for IndoNest.
The title-clash, watched by a large gathering produced a keen contest for supremacy and there was plenty of exciting at either end. The Village Boys grabbed the initiative with two strikes in the first period through Sharma and Rodrigues to go into the break with a healthy 2-0 advantage.
After the change of ends, IndoNest put in greater efforts to try and create scoring opportunities but they could only manage one strike as the Village Boys defenders put up a strong dogged approach. Chris Fernandes got the lone goal to reduce the deficit.
Chief Guest, former Indian star Steven Dias presented the champions trophy and the cash awards to Kalina Village Boys team and the runners-up trophy to the IndoNest team.
