Second seed Ganesh Kadam beat back a solid challenge from third seed Anshul Goyal to record a hard-fought 4-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7, 11-7 win in the semi-final round of the Men’s Open event of the Rs 75,000 prize money JVPG-ISP Squash Championship, the 116th tournament to be organised by the Indian Squash Professionals (ISP), and played at the JVPG squash courts.
In the final, Kadam will take on fourth seed Nilesh Pal who prevailed over unseeded Pradeep Chaudhary also in five games, winning at 11-5, 8-11, 11-5, 2-11, 11-7 in the second semi-final.
Meanwhile, in the Men’s Top-8 competition, the top two seeds Abhishek Agarwal and Tushar Kavi Shahani easily won their respective semi-final matches to set up a clash for the title. The number one seed Agarwal sidelined fourth seed Karan Mirchandani 11-6, 11-5, 11-8, while Shahani tamed sixth seed Shashi Pandey 11-6, 11-4, 11-6.
In the most interesting match of the day, the joint 3/4-seed Sachin Jadhav scored an upset win against second Anil Bhagat posting a 9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 victory in a Men’s Over 35 semi-final match. In the final, Jadhav will take on top seed Amitpal Kohli who comfortable defeated 3/4-seed Panji Grainger 11-5, 11-5, 11-7.
