Jyoti Pal exhibited terrific scoring touch and went onto to slam six goals in leading Central Railway to a solid 12-1 win against a young inexperienced India Rush side in a Women’s Pool-A match of the 41st Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana rink hockey tournament, played at the WCG floodlit courts.
Kavita Vidyarthi scored two goals while Anuja Singh, Kanchan Karketta, Lalklumanu, and S. Ranjitha got the other goals to complete the winning tally. India Rush who tried their best to match their senior opponents managed to score a consolation goal through Keisha Fernandes efforts.
Later, hosts Wellingdon Catholic Gymkhana rode on the double strikes from Julius Fernandes and Solomon Alexander did well to snatch a fighting 6-4 win against S.M.R.C. in an exciting Man’s match, for the Victor D’Mello Memorial Trophy. Laxman Rao and Meghraj Murthy netted the other two goals for the home team, while S.M.R.C. scored through Amrut Toppo and Sushi Ekka, both scoring two goals apiece.
Later in another men’s encounter, Ave Maria prevailed of Customs Blue by a narrow 4-2 margin. For Ave Maria forward Vinay Walmiki fired home two goals and Girish Pimpale and Vikram Singh slotted in one goal each, while Customs Blue scored through Muthana B.K. and Jayesh Jadhav.
In other women matches, Sunday Sultans ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams had a successful day. Sunday Sultans ‘A’ got the better of Mumbai Colts 4-1. Akshaya S. hit the target twice while Tanaz Mohammad and Nimmy Nair added one each. Mumbai Colts reduced the margin through Shrushti Jadhav.
Sunday Sultans ‘B’ outfit proved too good for Sea View SC romping to a 4-0 win. The highlight of their win was the efforts of ace forward Chaitrali Gawade who struck a hat-trick of goals and Priya Dubey who chipped in with one to round-off the winning tally.
