In a battle of twin sisters, Jyoti Patil out-paced Aarti to win the 100m breaststroke event with record-breaking effort in the girls 15-17 age group section on the opening day of the Glenmark-GMAAA Sub-junior and junior Aquatic meet, sponsored by Glenmark Aquatic Foundation at Tata Swimming Pool, Chembur, here today.
Earlier, too, at the Otters meet, she had excelled with a brace of medals. Jyoti, who practices at Worli’s police swimming pool, clocked 1:10.54 secs. thus eclipsing the 2014 record of Khar Gymhana’s Monique Gandhi (01:21.38 secs).
Other girls to be among the new record setters were Vedia Amin, of Otters, who bagged gold in 100m breast stroke event in Girls III category. Vedika too, bettered Monique Ganghi ‘s record in this event. Palak Dhami, excelled as she won gold in girls III section. Her timing of o:34.16 in the 50m backstroke was better than Aishwarya Nair’s timing of 00:35.18 secs set in 2010.
Otters’ Armaan Sikka set the pool ablaze with a record-breaking gold in the 100m freestyle in thr boys group III section. Armaan clocked 1:03.43 secs, thus improving the 2013 timing of 01:03.87 secs set by Vedant Singh. Other boys to share the days honours were Siddharth Sanke (GAF), winner of 100m breast stroke gold in 1:10.08 secs and Khar Gymkhana’s Neel Roy, who bagged a brace of gold medals in 100 and 200m freestyle events.

In this event the second-placed Angath Sadanah (GAF), clocked 1:03.66 secs. .thus he too bettered the 2013 record.
