Lanky Jignesh Rahatwal, mixing aggression with caution, sent the top seed Bhavesh Apte packing with a stunning 4-1 win to storm into men’s semifinals in the MCF -All Mumbai 4-Star Ranking Table Tennis tournament, hosted by Mandpeshwar Civic Federation at their Borivali sports complex here at Borivali last night. Jignesh was in such a control that left his rival in a mess, unable to match Jignesh’s hold on the tie before he was through with a 11-9,12-10,3-11,12-10,14-12 scoreline.
While Ravindra Kotiyan, a former state champion, and seeded second kept his nerves to get the better of junior Hrishikesh Malhotra 9-11,12-10,11-4, 11-13,11-5 to move into the last four. But the third seeded Bhavitvya Shah fell to the guiles of Tanmay Rane, who beat him 11-4,11-6, 14-12, 11-9.
Another star player to show how much he has improved over during one year, was junior Chinmaiya Somayia, who swept Viren Patel 11-9,11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, to complete the men’s semi final lineup. Incidentally, Chinmaiya also figures in the youth as well as junior boys singles semifinals.
