Jamnabai Narsee School, Juhu played well and their efforts were rewarded as they won the girls’ under-8 crown in the MSSA inter-schools handball tournament 2022-23, at the Schools Sports Centre, Azad Maidan.
The young schoolgirls from Juhu under the captaincy of Ariana Sharma showed excellent teamwork and went on to record a fighting 2-1 win against Sanjeevani World School from Dahisar in the final.
Aanya Prasad, who celebrates her eighth birthday on Sunday gifted herself an advance present as she played the lead role and inspired Jamnabai Narsee School (Juhu) by scoring both the goals in the first half which sealed the win for her school. However, she was unfortunate to be twice denied from adding to the tally in the second period. Aanya first saw her attempt bounce back from the horizontal bar and later her try crashed into the right post and went out.
Sanjeevani School fought well and tried their best to get back into the match, but managed to score only one goal through prolific goal-scorer Krishnavi Ghadigaonkar and had to finish as the runners-up.
In the boys’ under-8 final, Don Bosco International School from Matunga scored a narrow 3-2 win against Sanjeevani World School, who suffered a second heartbreak. Vansh Mankad scored all three goals in leading Don Bosco to victory. Ram Thakur scored both goals for the Dahisar team.
Results – Girls’ under-8 (final): Jamnabai Narsee, Juhu 2 (Aanya Prasad 2) beat Sanjeevani World School, Dahisar 1 (Krishnavi Ghadigaonkar).
Boys’ under-8 (final): Don Bosco International School, Matunga 3 (Vansh Mankad 3) beat Sanjeevani World School, Dahisar 2 (Ram Thakur).
