Goregaon Sports Club challengers Bernard James, Suresh Mahadik and Anant Yelve all played confidently and won their respective second round matches in the Bathija-P.J. Hindu Gymkhana 6-Red Snooker Open Markers Tournament, conducted under the auspices of BSAM and played at the Hindu Gymkhana billiards room on Thursday.
James fought back after losing the first frame to defeat Hemant Mayavanshi of Otters Club 3-1 (34-39, 42-8. 46-1 and 40-30), Mahadik got the better of home cueist Sandeep Teli of Hindu Gymkhana 3-1 (31-23, 26-30, 41-32 and 32-6), while Yelve easily beat Vijay Chavan of Wodehouse Gymkhana 3-0 (35-13, 50-2 and 27-14).
Meanwhile, Hindu Gymkhana’s Ajit Kobnak continued with his fine winning form and comfortably defeated Malabar Hill Club’s Bhupendra Surti winning in 3-straight frames at 3-0 (37-15, 37-15 and 38-13).
Radio Club’s Chinmay Gawde showed tremendous fighting qualities as he fought back from the brink of defeat to overcome Dadar Club’s Mangesh Gaonkar snatching a 3-2 (15-34, 28-40, 25-12, 37-12 and 34-12) verdict to advance to the third round.
Garware Club House’s Suraj Karande also staged a strong fight to overcome Chandrakant Dehrikar of Andheri Recreation Club 3-2 (35-1, 41-18, 6-46, 7-32 and 39-26) in another closely contested encounter.
