71st Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament
India Under-19 cricketer Yashaswi Jaiswal produced an impressive bowling spell picking up 3 wickets for 82 runs to help hosts Mumbai Police put the brakes on Payyade Sports Club scoring and restricting them to 289 for the loss of five wickets in 56 overs on the opening day of their semi-final clash of the Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd sponsored 71st Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2018, and played at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive on Saturday.
Put in to bat, Payyade were patient initially and build their innings on the basis of some fine contributions from their batsmen Hersh Tank (77), Siddhesh Lad (46), Akhil Herwadkar (41) and Akash Parkar (39 batting) before Jaiswal got the vital breaks. He received good support from Mayur Sanap who grabbed the other two wickets yielding 56 runs,
In the second semi-final, MIG Cricket Club were struggling at 164 for 7 wickets in 52 overs at draw of stumps on the first day. Gaurav Jathar (64 batting) and Swapnil Pradhan (61) were the men responsible for helping MIG reach a decent total. Atif Attarwala (4 for 33) and Pradeep Sahu (3 for 41) bowled well to share the seven wickets. The MIG lower order batsmen will have to do something special and try to score big runs when play resumes on Sunday.
