Jain Sports win Hindu Gym State Veterans’ TT team championship


Jain Sports, Pune, represented by Former international Sunil Babras and his partner Upendra Muley, won the PJ Hindu Gymkhana Veterans’ State Table Tennis championship, which concluded recently. Sunil Babras was the hero of his team’s victory in the finals, as he won both his singles matches against in form Dr.Nitin Toshniwal and Manish Rawat, from Solapur DTTA team.

Babras also proved his supremacy in the 50+ Men’s Singles finals, against Vivek Alavani. His team mate Upendra Muley, however lost in the finals of Men’s 40+ to Debdutt Chatterjee, who played his first Veterans’ championship.

There was a good fight noticed in the Men’s 60+ finals, when evergreen Prakash kelkar scored a hard fought win over former international Suhas Kulkarni. Suhas Kulkarni’s elder brother Satish Kulkarni also lost in the finals of Men’s 70+, to seasoned senior defensive player A.M.Warunkar, in a well contested match.

The youngest brother of Kulkarni family, Jayant Kulkarni had to be content with losing Quarter finalist prize. His wife Neeta Kulkarni, however, played the finals of Women 50+ section and went down to hard hitter Suhasini Bakre from Pune, 3-1.

Debdutt Chatterjee, who won the finals of Men’s 40+ section, put up a good show, displaying his consistency in strokeplay on both the flanks. Kamlesh Mehta, former international and Hon.Sectretary of Mumbai City District Table Tennis association, was present as a gusest of honour, along with other dignitaries like PJ Hindu Gymkhana Office bearers and office bearers of Maharashtra Veterans’ table tennis Association and Mumbai City District Table tennis Association. Former international Faroukh Khodaiji was also present on the occasion.
